A new edition of Modern Gaming is up as we take a look at the GBA port of the console versions based off the 2003 Hulk film. Out of all the Avengers, Hulk and Captain America happened to have solo movies before the MCU started. Of course, both films have nothing to do or have any ties to the MCU and fortunately have their own continuity. The 2003 Hulk starred Eric Bana as he played Bruce Banner for the role. The film saw success that year considering this was before the popular boom of superhero films in 2008. Honestly, despite Hulk being among the most recognizable superheroes, I never cared or liked the green giant. I remember enjoying Spiderman and X-Men cartoons in the 90s but for the 1996 series I never could get into it. Even with this film, I literally had no interest in the Hulk and not even for his MCU movie. It would seem that Marvel Studios feels the same way and that's probably the reason the Hulk never got a sequel in the MCU.
As for the port, due to the GBA's limited hardware compare to consoles at the time, it uses isometric 2D graphics as its layout. It means that the game has an over top view placed at angle similar to Sonic 3D Blast. I really don't know what category this game belongs in but I guess it's a hybrid between a brawler and a isometric platformer. The theme has nothing to do with the 2003 film's narrative and follows a separate continuity. It actually goes by the older comics as Tyrannus and the Leader (the Hulk's main antagonists) are in the story. I can see what they were trying to do with this port and that was to create a simple narrative so it would be easier for younger audiences. The Incredible Hulk (GBA) Review

A new edition of Modern Gaming is up as this month the first part of Avengers: Infinity War gets released in theaters. Of course, to celebrate the occasion I plan to do a list of Marvel games for the month leading to the film's release. Everyone knows that Marvel's Cinematic Universe was a massive success for a decade since Iron Man debuted in 2008. At first I was really excited when the MCU started because Marvel managed to get a shared verse right for the movies. As you probably do not know this was only possible in the cartoons and comics from the past but now they brought this universe to life on the big screen. Unfortunately, the MCU's quality has gotten worse since Age of Ultron in Phase 2 (the second worst film in the series). With a blotched Civil War (that should've been an Avenger film) and constantly ruining their villains (Mandarin, Ultron, and Zemo) gives me little hope for the MCU. Let's hope they don't turn Thanos into a Lord Zedd and the Avengers into the Power Rangers in Infinity War.
For this edition I will go over The Invincible Iron Man for the GBA and was in development by Torus Games. The game is an action platformer and the theme has Tony try to get his latest new armor that Morgan Stark, Blizzard, and Crimson Dynamo stole from his lab. For years Iron Man didn't have that many games as he was always shoved into other Marvel games. The review actually goes over Iron Man's first solo game as it got released in 2002, six years before the MCU started. If fact, they even used his old look from the 90's in this game. On a side not, this title saw a release during a time when Iron Man was a second-rate superhero. It's funny how so many thought little of him compared to now where he's at the height of his popularity. The Invincible Iron Man (GBA) Review Welcome to this new section dedicated to modern gaming and here we talk and review today's gaming trends. It is a section I wanted to come out with for a while since like any gamer I enjoy most eras in gaming. For the first review I wanted to go over what I feel is the best adventure game called Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It's been a while since the series saw a major change as a true open world game. BOTW actual goes back to the roots of the original Zelda where the player can go to any level when they wanted. Basically, this new entry is the 3D version of the original NES game and the concept is nearly the same. The original game's design would get the player lost in the world presented to them. At the start of the game, the player could easily found themselves in trouble quickly. It's by wandering around and getting lost while it being possible of being ambushed by monsters. As I played BOTW, I actually noticed these trends here as well since you can go anywhere and truly find yourself in trouble and lost quickly. I'm really glad Nintendo model BOTW after Bethesda' gameplay style too as seen from the Elder Scrolls so we could finally get a true open world game. I wonder when Nintendo will take Zelda into a steam punk world since BOTW already has shown technology like never before. I remember playing Final Fantasy IX and how it used a steam punk style in the environments. I am confident the same would work for Zelda and Hyrule could still have enchantment while working steam machines are in the background. That is the next step I would love to see Zelda go into as it might just make it even more interesting. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Review |
