Welcome to another edition of Horror Gaming and we finally take a look at a Pokemon Creepypasta called Glitchlett. The story is about a man telling his tale of a weird glitch he used in the original Red and Blue versions from his childhood. Will this be a familiar glitch that was just odd or something much worse from his childhood? Let's begin... I always love the way the authors would give a short history of whatever game is the center of the story. The way the guy explained Pokémon during the late 90's brought me back to how I felt about the series. My favorite thing these author do right is how they explain their childhood and the events that surround his backstory. There were countless times I defeated the Elite Four and was literally into the craze of the series. The main character also was very relatable since it was true for most of us that Red and Blue versions were starting to lose interest. In 1999, you either get Snap for the N64 or wait for Yellow version along with a couple of spinoffs no one cared about. How many times can one gamer take out the Elite Four and Blue after playing many times? It was also a year away before Stadium on the N64 and the Gold/Silver games hit store shelves so really there were no other options. However, the writer got another thing right and its the way he explained the history of glitches. I used to remember messing around with these glitches whether it was MissingNo or using the Game Shark to walk out of bounds. He/she took the ideas of MissingNo and Charizard M to create an original glitch. I also loved how he used a Pokémon that wasn't popular ever of Diglett. Let's be honest, the only time we ever used Diglett was to face Surge because of the ground type if Bulbasaur wasn't our main Pokémon—the fact he was able to take Diglett that no one really cared about and make it into an interesting tale was very creative. This mock up glitch of Diglett is the classic glitched out Pokemon you would see among the first Gen games. Its like a perfect cross between Charizard M and MissingNo. I'll admit, more hints of what was to come could've been used here. I am aware of the writer mentioning that every time he used Dig and Glitchlett came up, a distorted painful cry came from it. Additional features such as claw marks or its sprite getting disfigured would've given the story more eeriness about it. The build to the climax was done well as now we readers wanted to know what was causing Glitchlett to take damage. However, the climax itself was the best part of the plot as this left me unsettled by how it was written. Meaning, there was no systelian specter causing problems and nothing compelled the kid to continue. Even though the curiosity trope was used here however, the fact the protagonist's life wasn't in danger is why it works. The only time this trope gets a strike is when a character knows the dangers but risks it anyway because they wanted to feed their curiosity. That is the difference and the author does get points for writing this part with logic. The man explains the next part as a warped version of what he thought was Diglette's Cave. Now, the way he described this part did chill me because of the fact he stumbled on this glitch while it was almost the middle of the night. I mean the walls swelled as if they were flesh and something slowly creeped up on him. That is the greatest way to write anticipation since you the reader won't realize what will happen next. I also loved the way the writer used a deformed sprite of a Dugtrio to explain how terrifying the thing looked. This is literally nightmare fuel and no wonder he got freaked out especially when he was playing this late at night when this happened. For the first review of a Pokemon Creepypasta, this was actually one of the better stories I took the chance to read. One thing that made this so good was there are almost no clichés being used. No one is possessed, there wasn't a phantom internet seller, no gore, or any supernatural elements being used. What made this story unique is instead of the typical tropes, he used a glitch to tell a frightening tale from a man's childhood. It's another example of how to tell a Creepypasta on gaming as the author was being original. The writer did a great job putting a character in a frightening situation that's also believable. It's pacing was about right with starting out normal, but as the story progressed things kept building up until the climax. The way the character described these appearances of the glitched Pokemon and the cave made a lot of sense. It is possible for a glitchy game like the original Red and Blue versions to cause something like this to happen. Just take the Glitch City and MissingNo glitches for example—I do admit the detail he described on the Dugtrios did creep me out especially how these encounters happened. Another thing I give credit to the author and its how this ended with the game simply shutting off. You can tell its implied the kid probably fell asleep and dreamed the experience. So you are unsure if it was a dream or a weird glitch that lead to another one. I honestly thought the author was leaning more towards him dreaming the whole thing. Notice when the kid went back to the game, it turned on as if the batteries were still charged. Yet previously during his experience the game simply shuts off and he makes no mentioning of changing the batteries. It's not implied he was playing something else or change the batteries but he simply put the game in and turned it on. It's why the dream arc works as I have dreamed of games I played before but only to play differently from the original versions. That only makes the story more believable than most out there based on my dreaming experiences. For any faults, I have one gripe and it was him simply forgetting how to do the glitch in order to get Glitchlett. As much as I love the story, this is simply lazy writing as it's not hard to think of something creative. Yeah, I get it; this is not real, but that shouldn't stop anyone from being creative to explain how to get this kind of glitch. Rating: 8.2/10 Very Good Sources Story: creepypasta.wikia.com.
