A new edition of Horror Gaming is up, and we go over a creepypasta about a Pokemon Yellow version playing differently. As mentioned, gaming CPs slowly gained a reputation of producing poor results during the early portion of the 2010s. With the exception of Ben Drowned, Team Fortress 2 CPs and some original ones, these were the only good examples. When Sonic.EXE, MaRIo and Pokemon Blood Edition are listed on the resume of gaming CPs then you know something is wrong. These were notorious for their crappy writing and clichés used so often. As I have mentioned previously, eventually these writers would slowly get away from such bad habits in storytelling. Are there still terrible CPs getting produced till this day? Yes, there are, but they are far and in-between today—Friday the 13th NES from L.W. Sulton is an example of quality CPs being written lately.
For the story itself, Forgotten Yellow is among the few that’s based off the game to come out in the last decade. There is one called Rotted Yellow and another titled Jessica based on a guy naming his Pikachu in the plot. Often, its Lavender Town and its backstory that was used the most to tell these campfire tales around the first gen games. It's nice a break for the writers to do so to keep things fresh instead of relying on the same theme. The plot centers around a guy who one day after completing all his games gets the urge to experience Yellow Edition again. However, instead of being the same old game he previously went through it plays very different on this occasion. Did his new copy of Yellow Version get swiped for a rom hack at a store? Or is there something terrible about his play through this time? Pokemon Creepypasta: Forgotten Yellow Review

A new edition of Modern Gaming Reviews is up, and we check out a Metroidvania style game on the Nintendo Switch. The game is called A Robot Named Fight! as it is Metroid inspired in many ways. If you didn’t know, the term Metroidvania was coined due to Metroid and Castlevania implementing similar ideas during the last 25 years. Even though Nintendo’s sci-fi themed game was the series that used this the most, Castlevania was no slouch either. It is true CV was mostly an action platformer, but CVII on the NES and Symphony of the Night on the PS1 also used such concepts. That is the reason for the coined term because both series popularized the genre. MV has gone through its own evolution over the years especially in these retro style releases. However, they not only keep things faithful but push the original ideas further with improvements.
A Robot Named Fight! was made by a sole developer named Matt Bitner in 2017 when it originally released. Even since it came out Matt has updated the software that greatly improved the game. The updates served to give more content and features to increase the value of ARNF. However, unlike Outbuddies and Axiom Verge that strived for an 8-bit MV experience, ARNF goes more for Super Metroid. Nintendo’s 16-bit classic is still the gold standard in the genre as many for years tried to emulate its style and level design. There is a difference as Matt made a randomizer rogue MV to the likes we haven’t seen before. The only other time I played a randomizer was both the Modern and Super Randomizers from Zelda Classic based on the first game. ARNF does this too but also with each room throughout a seed which Modern and Super Randomizer of LOZ1 did not do. Now, we move on to another thing I like to bring up, and today is the site’s fifth anniversary. When there’s an anniversary then new banners are sure to come as I will make fresh ones for each section in the next few months. That is something I wanted to do for a while as it gives a fresh appearance. The new banner for the main page uses a similar 80s synth laser grind background. The difference is I added more details like a sunsetting sky becoming night and of course lightning bolts coming off the grid. Then we have the new logo which is an 80s synth style sun with purple shaded palm trees and different fonts. Sometimes it's hard for me to believe I even made this banner but that is what happens when you get better at Photoshop. My site has come a long way since having a crappy banner with just a single section. I’m glad the place has expanded into several sections over the years and will continue to do so.
